Credits and sources

CheckWhois lets you look up the public registration data of any domain name. Here is what the site is built on and where its data comes from.

Data sources

  • Registry WHOIS servers — every record shown is queried live on port 43 from the authoritative server of the relevant extension (Verisign for .com and .net, PIR for .org, AFNIC for .fr, and so on). Nothing is resold or re-published from a third-party database.
  • IANA root zone database — used to discover the WHOIS server of extensions that are not in our built-in list.
  • The website itself — reachability, response time, HTTPS certificate validation and policy-page detection are tested live against the domain you enter.

Tools and resources

  • SitemapAuto.com — automatic sitemap generation.
  • Design and icons — the logo, the favicons and the score gauge are drawn in-house in SVG and CSS. The site uses no icon library, no web font and no third-party stylesheet, which is also why it loads as fast as it does.
